Cyclone Whip Levels Explained
Level 1 vs. Level 2 vs. Level 3 vs. HD
You've picked your whip length. Now you're staring at Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and HD wondering what you're actually getting for the extra money.
Here's the simple breakdown.
The Quick Answer
For most riders, Level 3 is our recommendation.
It's our most popular Cyclone and offers an excellent combination of brightness, pattern quality, simplicity, and price.
But that doesn't mean everyone needs Level 3. Level 1 can save you money and still give you a great-looking whip, while HD is for the rider who looks at Level 3 and says, "Yeah... but can we make it brighter?"
Four Levels. Four Different Goals.
The Cyclone levels aren't simply good, better, best.
They're different LED configurations designed to give you choices based on your budget, desired brightness, and the level of pattern detail you're looking for.

Meet the Cyclone Levels
Level 1
Level 1 is where the Cyclone lineup starts, but don't confuse "entry level" with dim.
These are still bright LED whips and are plenty for riders who want patterns, visibility, and a great-looking machine without spending more than necessary.
Level 1 is a great choice if you:
- Want to keep the build budget-friendly
- Mostly ride trails and don't need extreme brightness
- Want the Cyclone look and pattern selection at the lowest price
- Would rather spend the extra money somewhere else on the machine
Power: 12V — no voltage converter required.
Level 2
Level 2 steps up the brightness and gives you tighter, smoother-looking patterns.
The LEDs operate at 5 volts, so Level 2 systems use a power converter between your machine's 12V electrical system and the controller.
Level 2 makes sense if you:
- Want more brightness than Level 1
- Care about smoother and more detailed patterns
- Don't mind having a converter in the installation
- Want a middle-ground option between Level 1 and Level 3
Power: Uses a voltage converter.
Level 3
Level 3 is our most popular Cyclone and the level we recommend most often.
You get excellent brightness, strong pattern detail, and very little color fading from voltage drop compared with many high-output LED whip designs.
Another advantage is that Level 3 operates directly from 12 volts, so there's no voltage converter required.
Level 3 is probably for you if you:
- Want our best all-around Cyclone
- Want serious brightness without jumping to HD
- Want great-looking, detailed patterns
- Prefer a simpler 12V installation
- Don't want to wonder later if you should have gone one level higher
Power: 12V — no voltage converter required.
HD
HD stands for high density, and this is where things get a little ridiculous — in a good way.
HD Cyclones use twice the LEDs, creating maximum brightness and extremely detailed patterns.
If your goal is maximum output, a show-style build, or simply having the brightest Cyclone option we offer, this is it.
Choose HD if you:
- Want maximum brightness
- Want the most detailed patterns possible
- Are building a show or display machine
- Believe "too many LEDs" is not a real thing
Power: Uses a voltage converter.

If you're trying to save money, I have absolutely no problem recommending Level 1. You still get a great set of whips.
If you want me to pick for you, though, I'd go Level 3.
That's why it's our best seller. You get a significant step up in performance without going all the way to the cost and LED density of HD.
HD is for the person who isn't really asking, "How bright do I need?" They're asking, "What's the brightest thing you've got?"

Is Level 1 still bright?
Yes. Level 1 is our budget-friendly Cyclone, not a dim whip. For many riders, Level 1 provides all the brightness they actually need.
What's the most popular Cyclone level?
Level 3. It's our best seller and the level we recommend most often for riders who want a strong balance of brightness, pattern quality, and value.
Does Level 3 need a converter?
No. Level 3 Cyclones operate from 12 volts and do not require a voltage converter.
Why does Level 2 need a converter?
Level 2 uses a different LED power configuration than the machine's native 12V supply, so the included system uses a converter to provide the voltage required by the whips.
Are HD Cyclones twice as bright?
HD Cyclones use twice the LEDs, but twice the LED count shouldn't be interpreted as a precise claim that your eyes will perceive exactly twice the brightness. The big advantages are maximum light output, LED density, and pattern detail.
Does every whip length offer every level?
